HORSE DESCRIPTION
Lafayette is an Australian Warmblood mare bred by (name withheld). She was born on the 28th December, 1993, in Mount Duneed, Victoria. Lafayette was purchased by Harris Park Warmbloods in June, 1998 as a 4 ½ year old. Pictured left: Lafayette at Revelwood Warmblood Stud partaking in the ACE Group Conformation and Movement Assessment with Gerd Küst in 2007. Photo: Photo Finish Photography ©.
Lafayette is a half sister to the Australian Warmblood mare Intuition (Dec) (by the KWPN stallion Inspiration (Imp/Exp) (Beaujolais x Nimmerdor x Marco Polo xx)) who stood at the Australian Equestrian Academy and Stud (AEA) whilst in Australia. Intuition was owned by Gemma Alexander of Geraldton, Western Australia. Lafayette was the first of only two foals out of Validate (Dec) (Valuta x Whistling Ghost (AUS) 1964 x Enghien xx). Pictured below right: Gemma Alexander competing in the Junior Jumping AM5 class riding Intuition at Perth Royal Show, 06 October, 2004. Photo: Julie Wilson Equestrian Photography ©.
Lafayette has since become the foundation mare of Harris Park Warmbloods. On 16 June, 2012, Lafayette was assessed by classifiers Di Wolyncevic and Bev Chugg at the Australian Warmblood Horse Association Limited (AWHA Ltd) QLD Branch and IHB Gala Day Show at Gatton Showgrounds in Gatton, Queensland. Lafayette scored 66.40% and is now designated Class 'B' of the Warmblood Foundation Mare (WFM) Register. On the day, aged 18 years, 5 months and 20 days, she measured 164 cms (16.0 ½ hh).
Lafayette's dam Validate (Dec) (Valuta x Whistling Ghost xx x Enghien xx) is an AWHA Ltd registered mare, classified at the AEA when it was located at Marcus Hill, Victoria, by Fred Hoevenaars. She competed twice at the Royal Melbourne Show in 1988 and again in 1992. In 1992, she won the best performed Warmblood up to Elementary level at the West Coast Dressage Championships. Validate is a ½ sister to Cardinal's Fury xx (Cardinal xx x Whistling Ghost xx x Enghien xx) (Mercedes Handicap Winner) and Donnini xx (Cardinal xx x Whistling Ghost xx x Enghien xx).
Lafayette produced four foals for Harris Park Warmbloods, Harris Park Malmö (Dec), Harris Park Salienta, Harris Park Répertoire (Dec) and Harris Park Florence. Her two daughters, Harris Park Salienta and Harris Park Florence have been used to continue her legacy in my breeding program. I am extremely pleased with what she has produced for Harris Park Warmbloods.
Lafayette was retired from stud duties in 2012 to Harris Park's 'Golden Oldies' paddock . She lived out her days as a retiree in our large paddocks with her best friend, my retired (now deceased) riding horse, Belcam Aaccent. I am a firm believer of giving my broodmares the retirement they have earnt and deserve. She is a very special mare having been with me since 1998, travelling on every posting throughout my military career.

Sire: Stirling Luther (Ludendorf x Falkland x Monopol) was bred by Bob and Judy Mitchell of the NSW Equestrian Centre in Lochinvar, New South Wales.
At the time Validate was bred to Stirling Luther, he was known as AEA Luther and stood at the Australian Equestrian Academy and Stud (AEA) in Marcus Hill, Victoria, with Dirk and Sicca Dijkstra. Stirling Luther was later sold to Tasmania. I am unsure what happened to him after his arrival in Tasmania and whether or not he is still alive.
Stirling Luther was Champion Warmblood Stallion at the Royal Melbourne Show in 1988. Out of twelve starts, he achieved what was believed at the time to be an Australian record of 185 dressage points, grading him at Advanced level dressage within two years. His first foal crop was born in 1988. He is a full brother to horses such as Stirling Liberty, Stirling Lukas and Stirling Lilac (Dec). Picture (above left): Stirling Luther. Read Stirling Luther's Australian Equestrian Academy and Stud (AEA) stallion brochure from 1995.
Grand Sire: Ludendorf (Imp/Dec) (Luciano x Waidmannshiel x More Magic xx) was imported to Australia in 1984 by Bob and Judy Mitchell of the NSW Equestrian Centre in Lochinvar, New South Wales. Standing at 17.2hh, Ludendorf stems from the German 'L' line through Lukas, Lugano I and Der Löwe (Wahnfried x Herold xx x Fervor xx). Before exportation from Germany, his first and only German foal crop had two licensed sons. On arrival to Australia, he was campaigned by Heath Ryan at Advanced level One Day Events and up to Grand Prix level dressage. Picture (left): Ludendorf. Photo: Pat Slater ©.
Ludendorf's son, Stirling Liberty (Stirling Luther's full brother) bought over $40,000.00 AUD at auction. Luftakrobat (Ludendorf x ? x ?) was a Columbian jumping sensation whilst Lehndorff (Ludendorf x Furioso II x Miracolo) stood at Lynncrest Farm in Lillooet, Canada, until his death in 2007. Stirling Lombard (Ludendorf x ? x ?) was exported to Indonesia where he competed and stood at stud. Luzifer (Ludendorf x ? x ?) was Champion Hack at major agricultural shows whilst Stirling Leonard (Ludendorf x ? x ?) was a dressage phenomenon previously in training with Clemens and Judy Dierks.
Ludendorf's sire, the Hanoverian stallion Luciano (Lukas x Eindruck II x Feldmarschall), was was known for producing highly talented performance horses in both dressage and show jumping. In 1975, Warrick Cozens of Clifton Court Stables imported a Luciano son from Gestüt Vorwerk in Germany (now owned by Sissy Max-Theurer from Gudula Vorwerk-Happ, her husband Jochen Happ and her mother Paula Vorwerk), the classified 1A Oldenburg stallion Lucano (Imp) (Luciano x Furioso II x Caruso). Luciano is a full brother to the dressage derby winner Marshall 55 (Lukas x Eindruck II x Feldmarschall). Luciano has a number of approved sons such as Lord Nelson (Luciano x Furioso II x Makuba xx), Lincoln (Luciano x Furioso II x ?), Lundberg (Luciano x Furioso II x ?), Lurioso (Luciano x ? x ?), Lysant (Luciano x Magister x Fredo), including Ludendorf (Imp/Dec) (Luciano x Waidmannshiel x More Magic xx).
Luciano also presented the successful international competition sports horse Lorenzo 40 (? x ? x ?), who won the English show jumping derby in 1985 under Paul Schockemöhle at Hickstead. Luciano's blood is highly sought after and is proven to produce top performance horses. Luciano is found in many good stallion pedigrees, including the stallions Depardieu (De Niro x Luciano x Efendi), Diamond Hit (Don Schufro x Ramino x Welt As), Royal Hit (Imp) (Royal Dance x Ramino x Welt As) and Smash Hit (Imp) (Sandro Hit x Rosenkavalier x Angelo xx).
Dam sire: Valuta (Imp/Dec) (Dominent x Alf x Traum), a tall and elegant Danish Trakehner was imported to Australia in 1982 by Gert and Mary Donvig (now Hanna). He combined size and elegance, flawless temperament and excellent movement. He won Champion Warmblood Stallion at the Royal Melbourne Show in 1882, 1983 and 1985.
Valuta also had many Grand Prix Championships in dressage to his credit including Victorian Champion as well as coming second in the Grand Prix at the Australian Championships in 1986. In 1988 Valuta and Gert were long listed for the Seoul Olympics team but sadly Gert passed away in May 1988. After Gert's death Valuta continued his success with Mary Hanna at National Championships and CDIs. Valuta was the sire of the Victorian Novice Dressage Champion Volunteer (Valuta x ? x ?), the successful medium dressage horse Valuchi (Valuta x ? x ?) and many other champions in dressage, hacking and eventing.
Valuta also sired numerous stallions including the eventer L. A. Vaudeville (Valuta x ? x ?), Vivaldi (Valuta x Tuellerama x ?) and Zimran (Valuta x Kilof McOhl x Balmoral Boy xx) as well as the AWHA Ltd licensed stallion Highborn Powerlifter (Valuta x Nova Vega xx x Spats xx). Valuta's progeny have been sold in Australia as well as internationally. Valuta was later sold By Statene Park to Vicki Marshall of Brindabah Park Stud where he remained until his death in 2003.
Sire's dam: Stirling Faleten (Falkland x Monopol x ?) is possibly the most decorated Australian Warmblood broodmare of her time. She was purchased by Deborah and Bruce Williams of Hollingrove Stud carrying a Don Ramiro (Imp/Dec) (Don Primero x Pik Bube I x Einhard) foal, which is proving to be one of their most valuable broodmares, Hollingrove Fallon.
Stirling Faleten produced at least five stallion sons, some of which were exported. The stallion Stirling Liberty (Ludendorf x Falkland x Monopol) is a full brother to the Warmblood horses Stirling Luther, Stirling Lukas and Stirling Lilac (Dec). Picture (left): Faleten. Photo courtesy of Deborah Williams of Hollingrove Stud ©.
Stirling Faleten's sire is the imported Holsteiner stallion Falkland (Imp/Dec) (Farnese x Lopshorn x Nordland). Falkland was imported in to Australia in 1979 and went on to produce a number of stallion sons including Falkland II, Falkland Victory (Falkland x Monopol x Macquario) and Falkrich (Falkland x Monopol x Stormy Water). Falkrich was the 2007 Jumping Stallion of the Year and went on to stand at Michelle and Peter McMahon's Kolora Lodge whilst Falkland II was campaigned by Janice Usherwood at Grand Prix level dressage. Falkland's son, Falkland II, is also the sire of Sue Hearn's Grand Prix dressage mount Duntroon (Falkland II x Decies xx x Red God xx). My gelding, Belcam Aaccent (Aachen x Falkland x Wonga Jim), dam sire is Falkland. Belcam Aaccent is a half brother to the stallion Cildara Conquest (Contango II x Falkland x Wonga Jim) who stands at Kings Horses in Queensland with Cheryl and Sean Williams.
Stirling Faleten's dam, Moneten was Queensland Dressage Horse of the Year in the 1970s and competed at FEI level with Lea Bierman. Moneten's sire is the imported Holsteiner stallion Monopol (Moltke x Aldato x Lothar). He was imported in to Australia in 1975 and had little exposure to competition due to stud commitments, however his progeny excelled in open and official competitions. Peter Weston's Supertramp (Monopol x ? x ?) is perhaps Monopol's best known dressage offspring performing at Grand Prix level, whilst Mona Lisa (Monopol x ? x ?) was Champion Warmblood Mare at Brisbane Royal in both 1987 and 1988. Monopol is also the sire of Brett Davey's FEI horse Barncleuth Harvest Moon (Monopol x ? x ?) and Geraldine Monfrans' Grand Prix dressage horse Mongold (Monopol x ? x ?) whilst Grand Design (Monopol x ? x ?) excelled in show jumping. Stallion sons Heini (Monopol x Master of Law xx x Sweet Ray xx), Hillside Diamond (Monopol x Hildalgo xx x Tsaoko xx), Lynjool Monopoly (Monopol x Admiralty Court xx x Cragsman xx), Monoduke (Monopol x Unidentified x Unidentified) and Monokol (Monopol x Tanzo xx x Red Diver xx) were all successful in passing their AWHA Ltd colt selection.
Both stallions, Monopol and Falkland, were imported by Gerhard Quast of Holstein Park. Some people refer to the Falkland x Monopol as a 'golden' cross. This breeding combination has proved extremely successful over the years in Australian Warmblood breeding.
